LUCID registration in Germany for foreign sellers shipping packaged goods

What is the LUCID Packaging Register?

LUCID is Germany’s official packaging register, operated by the Central Agency Packaging Register (ZSVR). Companies that place packaged goods on the German market may be required to register in LUCID and fulfil additional obligations under German packaging law.

LUCID registration itself is free of charge. However, registration alone does not automatically fulfil all packaging obligations. Depending on your packaging and business model, additional requirements may include participation in a dual system, packaging quantity reporting and, for foreign companies, the appointment of an authorised representative.

DO FOREIGN SELLERS NEED AN AUTHORISED REPRESENTATIVE?

Selling packaged goods to customers in Germany from abroad?

If your company is established outside Germany and places packaged goods on the German market, German packaging law may require you to appoint an Authorised Representative in Germany.

What can PackRep Germany take over?

As your Authorised Representative, PackRep Germany takes over the agreed packaging law obligations that can legally be transferred to us and acts as your point of contact in Germany.

LUCID registration remains your responsibility

Your initial LUCID registration must be completed by you. We guide you through the registration process and help you appoint PackRep Germany correctly in LUCID.

What about the dual system?

If your packaging is subject to system participation, we can coordinate the required dual system participation and the related packaging quantity reporting as part of our service.

Small seller or unsure what applies?

Packaging obligations do not simply disappear because your sales volume is small. We can review your situation and tell you which requirements apply to your business.
